Angel Studios and others from the local music & film industry will be running a music and video competition this year. The competition is open to groups from schools and youth organisations in South East Queensland in years 10-12. A school can enter more than one group if they want to.

Each group will record up to 3 original songs and make a video for one song which can include footage of the musicians, plus additional footage of their choice eg dancers, acting, other performers. In order to be fair to all schools, there will be limits on equipment and music. In particular all filming and recording must be done entirely in our studios, and music must be played entirely by the musicians - ie. no samples or sequenced music and no stock footage. Recording and video work will be produced by us with input from students in the creative process. (eg. choreography, CD artwork, video storyboard).

The winning school will receive $5000 worth of prizes including music and video equipment and a recording package. There will also be prizes for outstanding individual performances. In October up to 8 of the top 8 groups will be selected as finalists to perform live and have their videos shown in a suitable venue. The finals will judged by music industry professionals. We plan to publicise the competition and the final, with possible radio or TV airplay for the best songs and videos.

The commitment in terms of time and money is

• 1-2 hr Pre-production consultation to discuss ideas, and what is possible to achieve,
• 2 days recording & mixing music,
• 1 day filming,
• 1 day video editing.

The schools pay for studio time and equipment at a sponsored/subsidised rate of $1100 (GST inc). The cost includes 100 copies of the audio CD, which the school can sell to recover their expenses.

Additional CD's and a compilation DVD with all videos will also be available at wholesale price to schools. Recording can be at a time of your choice during business hours (weekdays/daytime) and must be booked in advance. The recording sessions could be organised as a work experience excercise.
